Now that Smash 4's roster has been finalized, what are your thoughts on the newcomers and DLC characters? Are you happy with the roster, upset, or somewhere in between?

I'm mostly happy with the final roster. Basically everybody I wanted in got in, and holy crap Cloud got me interested in trying the game competitively again.

Now here's where I go into my thoughts on the newcomers and DLC characters I actually have opinions on. EDIT: This part turned out to be pretty lengthy, sorry!

Shulk: When Shulk was announced, I was hyped as hell. Xenoblade Chronicles rep? Yes fucking please! Then I got the game, and after a few months of denial I came to the conclusion that he's terrible. Frame data why?!

Robin: As a big Fire Emblem fan, it was nice to see a very unique Fire Emblem rep. He doesn't suit me, but I appreciate what Robin brings to the table.

Lucina: Lucina is honestly the only character who I think should have remained a costume. All of my hype for her was lost completely when I realized that she was a clone, and I honestly think that Lucina, a character who brings absolutely nothing to the table, made reactions to Corrin worse than they would have been otherwise.

Corrin: I think he looks hype as hell. Too bad Lucina exists which causes Corrin to make the already sizeable Fire Emblem representation feel bloated. (FYI I've played Fates and actually like the character) Definitely the most unique Fire Emblem character by a long shot, and Corrin will probably become one of my secondary characters alongside Roy and Ryu. I still think there would have been salt because of Corrin's reveal, but I truly do believe that Lucina makes it much worse than it would have been otherwise.

Ryu: My god this man is fun to play with. He really feels like a Street Fighter character in Smash, and I love it.

Roy: I'm happy that he's back, with buffs and more significant differences from Marth. Was my main until Cloud was released.

Cloud: He's literally everything I wanted Shulk to be. Helps that I'm a fan of FF7. He got me interested in playing the game competitively, and my only gripe is that he doesn't have either one of a combo throw at mid - high percents or a kill throw. (I'd only want one or the other.) His recovery is bad, but it seems reasonable to me. He just feels so smooth, and my hype was massive when he was revealed.
