Now is the time for federal pay equity legislation

Ugh. Can we just ban opinion pieces? Let me summarize the comments that will be below (or above, more likely): 1) The wage gap doesn't exist when you correct for everything that the wage gap exposes. 2) Maybe women should choose better jobs. 3) Women just like taking care of babies more. 4) Men are already disadvantaged enough with all the programs to help women, maybe we should just leave things the way they are.

1 and 2 are very valid criticisms that wage gap studies routinely don't account for in order to reach their conclusions. 3 could be worded more appropriately, but for the most part, it's also a factor that is routinely not accounted for. You do understand that the reason why these criticisms keep coming up is precisely because they are giant holes in every single one of these opinion pieces.

4 is debatable IMO, so I won't touch that one.
