NPs like the author of this article need to stop claiming that they have medical knowledge equivalent to MD/DOs!

I am, and like I also said, it would depend on the setting and patient, and also if I was a CNS in that area. However, since it doesn’t apply to me I’m not going to speculate. Clear communication is paramount and if the patient was confused as to why I could prescribe something and not their staff nurse, then I would explain my extra credentials.

No different than a psychologist explaining why they can’t prescribe medicine but being referred to as doctor. We don’t have this running argument about psychologist vs psychiatrist being referred to as doctors, so it shouldn’t be any different. I could care less what people are referred to as and my personal preferences will never take priority over patient understanding, but it seems like the theme with nursing is this assumption we all want to play physician. Nursing and medicine are separate disciplines. By the time I’m done with my doctorate it will be 8 years of full time school, if I wanted to be a physician I’d have gone to medical school.
