NY Cops Used 'Stingray' Spy Tool 46 Times Without a Warrant

I apologise ahead of time because I couldn't read the article, it wouldn't load. I will clear some things up that reddit gets wrong a lot. When your cell connects to one of these towers , it does not grab your data unless it meets the inputted requirements, such as name, Id, and such. If it is gathering these things illegally, then I would say the special guys close to dc are interested in you. Why? It is very unlikely that members of the police force have the knowledge/skills it would take to tamper with the equipment to make it perform these tasks. So it goes like this, you connect to their tower, you don't match, you are kicked off their tower so your phone can perform as intended, and now there is a chance you will ping it again to start the cycle again. Because you keep getting kicked off for not fulfilling the requirements, that is how those apps see soo much activity.

Reasons why information about this equipment is kept quiet: It is a product first and foremost and disclosing trade secrets is harmful to that company. My friend made the argument that by doing business with the government you should have to give up those rights as a company. This is dangerous slope because some of the products the government buy could be used to harm it and it's citizens by the enemy. Why create such products in the first place? .&_

Some people value their right to privacy above these things and I understand that. Fight the good fight, I understand the potential scenarios you are trying to prevent. Me, I carry a gun incase it comes to that.

Also, if you let this information out you are letting the bad guys know your tactics and they will find ways around it, wasting the tax payers money on a now very expensive tin can.

So, I hope my bias opinion was still informative and not too closed minded.
