[NYC] - Wife was offered a new job, she signed a contract with her new employer, and put in her notice at her current job. Today, her future employer owner rescinded the job offer with no explanation. Wife's current position is being filled and she can no longer stay there.

So it doesn't sound like she signed a contract, it sounds like she signed an offer letter. On the off chance it was an actual contract, what does it specifically say about termination? That's what is going to matter here.

1) What recourse does she have?

This will be outlined in the contract. What she is entitled to is what is in the contract. If there's nothing in there, then At-Will employment laws take precedent.

2) The contract she signed detailed her obligations to her employer, but NY is an at-will state, and did not include any obligations for her employer.

Yeah, definitely boned.

3) How boned are we? Assuming boned is the proper legal term here.

Definitely boned.
