NYT article: Generation Adderall

Same.

Going by the always-correct method of assuming by your username, I'm going to run with the fact that you're female-- and in my own personal experience, we're so much less likely to be 1. considered for, 2. taken seriously if it's mentioned -- for ADHD.

I was 100% full-on, typical-case ADHD as a child (massively hyperactive, emotional disruptions, no focus, no ability to 'sit still', odd academic performance (I seem to manifest in doing either REALLY well or TERRIBLY-- there's very little middle ground, and have transcripts to prove it.) and it took my decades to finally get an official diagnosis and be treated. This is with me having brought it up with mental health professionals at all levels over many, many years, but it was never looked into again. Finally, it took an academic counselor (at almost 30yrs old) suggesting I be "officially screened" for ADHD by my GP or a psych. professional -- so I went to my psych. professional, with the suggestion, and was finally diagnosed .. but "just by a bit" because of the official diagnostic criteria being eaten away largely by coping mechanisms I'd developed over the years.

Hope you're doing well. I'm still adjusting and reflecting, but honestly-- I kind of regret 1. not seeking specific help earlier, and 2. not "trying it in college" like the author of this shit-piece and so many of my friends had done. (It was even a question my psych. asked me-- if I'd ever tried anyone else's stims, even once? But I did college sports with random drug testing and was also deathly afraid of 'drugs' bc of strict parents, so there's that.)
