[O Levels] [A Levels] Meritocracy makes us hostile towards one another

Be careful of what you wish for. As a Malaysian I can only dream of meritocracy in education. Pre-U matriculation and university admissions are quota based, 90% for Malays and 10% for non malays. This means that Malays who got ~4A’s in O’s (SPM) have a direct, 1 year guaranteed path to local universities, while most of my non Malay friends, even with 9A’s got rejected. Check this out, the best university in Malaysia accepts students based on race (BUMIPUTERA means Malays and indigenous people)(https://www.um.edu.my/academics/foundation/foundation-studies/physical-sciences). Non malays have to work their asses off in sixth form to get a chance into a university (many 4.0 students don’t even get the courses they want at UM, but get offered a scholarship to NTU or NUS lol)
