Obama Bans Machine Guns, Tanks, Grenade Launchers Going to Local Cops

Truth be told, I do like discussing these issues. These are IMMENSELY important issues as much of it deals with our basic, constitutional rights. I HATE the fact they have to be discussed. It seems as though there are so many problems compounding on top of each other that writing anything less than a book can't seem to properly cover it

I am white, I have no idea what it is like to black/brown/whatever. It doesn't mean I don't see issues or can't form an opinion for fear of receiving comments such as that previous user. I don't know what the answer is, but it seems to me like this will continue to escalate.

When the law is not enforced, such as letting these businesses burn or property get destroyed, that sends a message. When police are under constant scrutiny and it is assumed that all are bad, people will respond to that emotional response. We have had multiple cops essentially assassinated this year. Those actions are emotional responses. What do the police then think? That they are under more threat. How do they respond? Well, they have extra fear carried with them knowing that some people are questioning their own, sometimes wreckless, conduct. This will result in either a) more use of force or b) less enforcement of the law. It will continue to escalate for both sides, LEO's will feel more threatened and be more quick to respond irresponsibly. The more that happens, the more people rise up against it. It is a vicious cycle. (Apologies if I make it seem like police are the victim, there is blame on every single citizen, including police, of these communities where this is rampant, as well as those outside of the communities for not raising enough hell about it. )

We can't only speak to the problems of the police force. We also need to speak of the issues going on in many impoverished areas. I work at a Trauma Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I see the pager blow up at night. Gunshot X2 abdomen, gcs 7, gunshot left side neck, gcs 3, etc. It is scary how violent many areas currently are. I do not think the police force is inherently bad, nor do I think impoverished areas are inherently violent. In both situations it is a select group of individuals blatantly disregarding the law of the land and their constitutional rights.

I see it as a simultaneous effort... South Carolina, the cop killing that black man who was running away and clearly no longer a threat? I SINCERELY hope that he does the full penalty for involuntary manslaughter (closest conviction for at least what it seemed to be). But I also hope that people try to take back control of their communities from these select individuals causing trouble. They aren't just hurting themselves and the business, they are hurting the entire cause of the issue. The peaceful protesters should be the first in line to stand in front of businesses and protest and not allow the small group of thugs to POISON their entire cause, especially when they do have legitimate concerns to voice.
