Obama Just Pledged $4 Billion to Develop Autonomous Cars

I LOVE it when someone posts sources that confirm what I write. It really takes the work right out of it.

In your second link the very first words were, "For years, people have moved to the country to escape the dangers of big city life." Thanks for that. See the reality is EVERYONE knows why people are leaving the big cities and it's ALL ABOUT "urban youth".

This is no myth. It's common knowledge at this point and the very reason people DO NOT move to the cities unless there's some major gentrification going on. Ahh....love some gentrification.

As far as your cities being safer than rural areas link goes also, it's quite clear why that is and is referenced in your article--traffic accidents, suicides and proximity to hospitals. Another thing, the article is very careful in it's phrasing: "the risk of death from injury was 1.22 times higher in the most rural counties, compared with the most urban ones." I am wondering how they interpreted this. Given that they mentioned " trauma physicians tend to be more accessible and better trained and equipped in urban areas, which may contribute to lower death rates from all kinds of injuries" it is clear they are not talking about death rate but "death by injury rate". So for those that get hurt, more die in rural areas. Ok, that makes sense. Still that's not the death rate. Also, there's a very good reason the "trauma physicians tend to be more accessible and better trained and equipped in urban areas", it's because there's far more trauma in urban areas--especially gun violence.

The bottom line is this sentence is an absurdity that we all know is false, "this idea that cities are more dangerous for an average (white) American than suburbs is myth, really." We know this not just from statistics but from reality. Many of us have been near the no-go zones in cities. We know first hand we'll be called white-boy, cracker, etc and harassed the closer in proximity we are to these areas. So, you can spout all kinds of non-sense you like about the "safety of the city" for white people. We'll keep advising our sons and daughters which exits to steer clear of and anyone doubting the truthfulness of this can just drive right through and see how comfortable they feel. I'd advise not to ignore that feeling of unease. The human body is designed to sense when it's unsafe and this visceral sensation isn't going to go away because you find an article that skews the reality of the situation.
