Obese people of Reddit: Why are you obese? And do you plan on losing weight?

Very recently not technically obese as of about a week or so ago, but was at around 5'10", 230lbs three months ago. I'm down to 206 and still losing with a goal of around 170ish for now, and it's annoying how long it takes to make progress. I don't see myself as any different than how I looked 30lbs ago, but I've been told I look slightly thinner now.

I've fluctuated all over the place with my weight. I was fat all through adolescence, peaked at 270lbs around my first year of college, dropped to 175 during my second year with some pretty tightly controlled calorie restriction and excercise from walking to class, climbed back up to 240ish over the next few years, and just started dieting again recently because I want to finally be able to even begin feeling confident about how I look.

Weight control is simple, but it's not easy for most people. Stress makes everything super difficult to stick with, and convenient food often isn't the most calorie-light. I deal with anxiety and depression, and my coping strategy growing up in a toxic family was food. Now that I'm out and live alone, I can control my diet just by not buying the food in the first place. It's hard to overeat when it would require leaving my apartment to do so.
