Oculus Tips on Facebook Account Issues

You are missing the point!

Facebook is a special evil. It's possibly not intentional, but the way their algorithms work puts people in bubbles where they get a skewed view of the world. It's incredibly polarizing.

Facebook has had (and still have) huge issues with various extremists and troll accounts spreading fake news, just look up things like the genocide they facilitated in Myanmar. Quite horrible networks are built using Facebook, and they are very slow to take action. It's only last month they decided that it wasn't ok to deny the holocaust on their platform.

Instead of taking responsibility and admit that the whole "connecting friends and extremists" isn't working out, they are (due to political pressure) doubling down on finding accounts that spread misinformation. With billions of user, this is of course a futile endeavour.

So with this in mind, the huge problems Facebook have, it's just dumb to force Facebook accounts on Oculus users. They should have kept the Oculus accounts and forced a Facebook account for the social media aspects so people could opt out of their propaganda catalyst.

A Valve Steam account is nothing like a Facebook account. It's used for Steam, to buy games and connect with other players, and for Valve to keep tabs on what kind of games you like so they can sell you more games. I'm ok with this. I'd prefer they didn't track me at all, but it's not that big of an issue for me.

The Oculus account was like that. It provided some benefits for me as a user, and it provided Facebook with all the information they needed. I have no intention of using the social features of the Quest 2. There is absolutely no need for a Facebook account, they don't need to know who my non-gaming friends are or what political leaning my brother in law has. It's ridiculous.

Despite what you and others say, I can buy an Xbox, a playstation, a Nintendo Switch, or games on Steam, Origin, Uplay and so one and not a single one will force me a social media account. On all of them I, one single person, can have multiple accounts. So why are you saying Facebook is not a special case? What do you gain by spreading that lie?

And finally, don't make stuff up. Keep your sick masturbation fantasies to yourself, creep.
