Wearing a full headdress while you get high at Coachella? Please don't. Headdresses hold a special significance to the cultures/tribes that used them, and you're not being respectful.

Let's say there's a special type of chopstick in Japan that is used for religious purposes. Obviously I wouldn't go and eat noodles with them over there because that would be rude. But if I liked them, bought some and took them home, why should I care what significance those chopsticks hold in Japan when I don't live there, am not part of the culture, and the items don't hold any special significance for me?

Maybe I need an example I can identify with. Can you give me an example of a special Western cultural concept/item being used (real or hypothetically) by another culture that is analogous to the "headdress at Coachella" example?
