I was offered a sysadmin position without even knowing what a sysadmin was and took it.

TL/DR: Cool Story Bro & Excersize; Cert up - while looking for a new job.

If I get you right:
1) Have Degree in Programming + Mechanical Engineering: OK (Note to self, I want to see a video showing how to build something simple and generalized. (Window curtain slider & how to modify stop points? How aout a blind winder/direction modifier?) Make directions so a 10Yr old can do it (With branch points; notes of generalizations of what can be substituted (typically) in the parts list.) (Note to self: verify degree)
2) Got Job as SA when had no job: OK (verify). 3) 4 Months Experience Environment Consists of Domain Controller (08), Exchange (07), Sharepoint (3.0), Email Filtering (MS?), and potentially MS-SQL (08, STD). (DNS/DHCP?)
4) Two Months Experience: systems migration (15 client PC's -> Linux Mint. Windows 2008 SBS (See #3 above, now 6 mo exp.) to Ubuntu (Zentyal hosted on a hyper-v HA Cluster utilizing the Zentyal as DC) (?: Does this cause a failure cycle for the hosts, or just the HA cluster?)
* Project did not account for hardware required. * BOss proved system was unstable by pulling SPOF (SAN?). * Project Manager left country? (Was this on an episode of "Sysadmin housewifes"?) * Knows bash shell; backup on Linux, 5) One Month Experience Migration from OpenChange®, SOGo, Samba4, Heimdal Kerberos®, Dovecot, Postfix, Postgrey, Sieve, Fetchmail, Amavis, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Apache, CUPS, Netfilter, BIND9, ISC DHCP, NTPd, OpenSSL, OpenVPN servers to Windows (Probably ~2009 products) equivalents. (Hosted on Hyper-v free version)
* Kid states he did the design for the new infrastructure? * My Way?? I want to see this: Should bein the comments allready. 6) Terminated due to corporate financial hardship * Kid touched built the website for folded Co.
* Kid states he has learnt CSS html * Kid knows some mysql; php * Kid Learnt "a bunch of stuff" AD, protocols, mail servers, networking, virtualisation, Linux, ... * Apparently sane & speaks no ill of the bozos (..particularly).

Note 1) Got paid badly for seven months to be introduced to Microsoft Systems (Did you have to do desktop stuff in this process?) and Three months experience in the Linux equivalents (probably just out of school). (Nice: Except for the laid off bit. Can they find the site in the wayback machine?) Note 2) The main issue you are going to see is that your skills are too low to be high, and too high to be low. (Not only for you, but if you really know that crap, you shoud be worth more (at least in another market). You need a cert, and in many places to "officially" choose Linux, or windows. Many larger orgs (2K+) silo people "windows/unix/db/web" in IT.

Note 2) Amusing story, I recommended someone with a decent story and similar set of skills. I was once one (more or less: Went to the MCSE side). The one I recommended would not choose and could not get one of the several jobs. (I still would like to find: a Remote Splunk; DC-Local - Sr Linux (better than me at Win, at least), Mid-Win (but have to at least know AD/FSMO roles: we have to fix logon issues due to Windows/LINUX/Postgres/etc SSO clients.)).

Note 3) Personally, I don't know what you want to do. You reach Sysadmin greatness. With a degree in Cybernetics and trial by fire you could rise to be the BOFH we have waited for. Should you choose BOFHness, you will need an ancient Windoze certification as an IT Professional. (Sharepoint, WIndows server 2012, .. Word?) Go look at [microsofts site] and decide if one looks like you know most of it. check the 2012 track.) Since you have no job and no cert: Get one of these certs. (Now you can get a Helpdesk/sysadmin job .. more easily as you get more certs.) Don't aspire to bet above PFY yet. Just aspire to be at a place where they pay you to study (Either total fuck up place you described, or bring in your own laptop). Take out your port requirements from Windows; go study for some linux cert. Linux+ should be easy (if it's like Security+) You have some of the concepts & execution allready - memorize them with "why for a week". Now you can find a job that is stable and will let you bring in a laptop, and some motors and an erector set (and an adruino, or cygwin? I practice cybernetics with simple stuff: on you tube. It's scripting practice & keeps you sharp for unknown systems..). Grow from a pimply faced youth. Play with the Elevator Erector set from your desk. Get a RHCE or something.
