Officer gives himself a citation for running red light

If that were true it would not have been a news story. Unfortunately he is one of very few.

What a load of horseshit. It's in the news because of how ridiculous and humorous it is.

Bad actions from police officers are featured in the news whereas good actions are very rarely leading to a massively ignorant perception of law enforcement that you are showing. Of course there are bad but it's bullshit to say it's the massive majority like you are.

Who wants to see 'Officer so and so did a good deed at work today'. Nobody, that's why only the bad parts are shown and then spun by the media for interest. For example, the guy who kills 2 people, national news, the doctor who saves 1000 people over his lifetime? Nobody knows him.

I've seen cops use their sirens to run reds, speed without using their lights or siren, and I've been cut off by a few.

Because there isn't always a need for lights and sirens.

I got a ticket for talking on my phone while driving a month ago, later in that very same commute I saw a cop driving while on the phone...

While I'm sure this is a $100% totally true story, Officers can legally use a phone while driving. But I'm sure you'll evolve this into 'Well I could see he was playing Candy Crush!'.
