Official Discussion - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice [SPOILERS]

Meh, sat down, thought about it, maybe I was too harsh. /u/atomicpenguin12 , Apologies.

While I thought the movie was great and an enjoyable super hero ride, I do think it could have been better. Definitely not, “oh my gosh best movie ever zomg!!!” material. But it exceeded my expectations ten fold, and I do not agree that it was a gigantic steaming pile of garbage. Because it was fun and the fight scenes were fucking awesome. Ben Affleck looks like Batman, fights like batman, and acts like Batman. Batman was actually fluid for once, and not super stiff and uptight; Bruce actually did the detective work, and was more than just a drunk, billionaire, playboy. I feel like a good Batman plays off both Bruce and the vigilante. Rather than the mask actually being Bruce. Gal Gadot, another plus. [http://imgur.com/gallery/y74HKHY](phew, holy shit, man)

However here’s my thoughts on the other end of the spectrum.

-Batman kills. And takes zero remorse in doing so. While it isn’t necessarily unheard of for Batman to kill (sorry to bring up arguable canon material), especially unintentionally, it still took me a little off guard how easily he could just machine gun down people. I got the whole Arkham video game vibe from the way he killed with a vengeance. (Loved the branding though) But I get it; this an old, war damaged, grieving Batman that has lost many a comrade in Gotham that doesn’t hold the same ideologies he once carried. I felt that was one of the main themes of the film though, and something he constantly struggled. How far he was willing "to go". If he could justify killing Superman, ultimately deeming him a villain.

-Lex Luthor. I got more a Riddler mixed with the Joker feel from him, he spoke in riddles, was too conniving and psycho-esk rather than strong in his convictions and intellectually manipulating. I liked the rendition and Jesse Eisenberg killed it I just felt some parts were pushed too far for Lex. The creepy serial killer polaroids of Martha? The creepy tapping close up with the senator, “the red capes are coming…" But again I still get it, this is a different young-silicon-valley-type-napolean-syndrome-godlike-complex-Lex-Jr approach with some pretty quality initial character development. I feel he will evolve into the Lex characteristics and tendencies we all know to love. Even if it didn’t stick entirely to any of the source material. I think we (or me) are just not used to seeing this characters together on different moral paths, timelines and age.

-I felt the plot moved slow at times and then very rapidly to make up for so. It was like it didn't want to keep a steady pace, and when it did it was full force. But even the slow parts kept me entertained and constantly on the edge of my seat. Also, too many moving plots (at one point in time there was 5 or 6+? Maybe more?) A general audience, could have gotten very lost but I don't think it was necessarily damaging to the different overall character arcs. The whole email exchange with all of the metahumans felt oddly placed, sequence wise, as well. Thrown in at an odd moment, essentially for the purpose to introduce the JL, but seems like it would be better suited elsewhere. The Flash flashback would have sufficed for me as a JL introduction. Because it is implies it was formed, at least on the knowledge that the Flash knows of Batman.

-The Doomsday fight was an awesome fight scene but felt solely thrown in for a way to “unite” Batman, Superman, and Wonder woman. Because, Justice League.

While I was a bit of a dick about it, I just thought that the questions OP raised were easily justified and answered if you just applied some critical thinking. Like I’ve said before, it felt like nitpicking. Similar to the CinemaSins on youtube “Everything wrong with…” (I know it's parody) I think sometimes people over hype themselves and expect so much more out of something, and then nothing will every live up to their expectations, especially when you’re a die hard fan. And expect things to be done the right way.
