Official Discussion - Encanto [SPOILERS]

Late to this train, but I think it's important to highlight that some behaviors are made, not born with. It's not a great thing to deal with, but I'd hardly say someone who grew up with that kind of hardship doesn't "deserve" to be in their child's life. My mother lived through the Civil War in El Salvador and exhibits similar mannerisms to those that were raised here.

She and I both admit things weren't great in my upbringing, but she did the best with what she knew and had. As an adult I genuinely respect her for being able to raise me despite all of the crap she went through in life, particularly when my dad left her.

I think it's nice if you have a different upbringing or if you can recognize the fault in certain behaviors, but that's not everyone's reality and for a lot of people family can still be extremely supportive and important in their own ways.
