Official Discussion - Hamilton (2020) [SPOILERS]

I'm gonna have to go against the grain and say I did not like this movie.

Now, I've listened to several black critics talk about Hamilton, and they made a lot of interesting critiques of the movie. One of the consistent themes was a disdain for having a play star a bunch of black actors and actresses, playing slave owners, set to hip-hop music, which has traditionally been a black dominated genre.

But none of that has anything to do with my main complaints of Hamilton, namely that I thought the songs were incredibly cringy, and that it was extremely boring. These Broadway actors just can't rap. They don't have the flow and cadence to make this sound not terrible. And then there are the lyrics, which are amateur level rhymes and verses. The closest the music got good for me was when they were just doing a traditional Broadway song with a drum machine.

And as far as it being boring... I'll be honest, this was a struggle for me to get even one hour into. I just couldn't deal with how repetitive everything felt to me, and I realized I'd rather do literally anything else with my day off.
