Just got back from the theater. Overall, I️ liked it. It wasn’t great but wasn’t a trainwreck like I️ heard it was.
What I️ liked:
The touch of humor. I️ think more people laughed in my theater than any of the previous DCEU movies combined. My favorite funny moment was Aquaman spilling his guts only to realize he was sitting on WW’s lasso. Flash’s Pet Semetary comment was also funny.
Superman was terrific in this film. Almost a complete 180 from MOS and BvS. His chemistry with Flash was on-point IMO and reminded me a lot of the animated series.
I️ was pleasantly surprised by Cyborg. I️ really liked his character even though I️ was expecting him to be shoe-horned in.
I’m glad Steppenwolf wasn’t killed off (hopefully the parademons didn’t tear him apart). IMO this gives WB a great opportunity to bring him back in a future film and work him better as a villain, hopefully alongside Darkseid and the rest of the New Gods, even though it was suggested he wasn’t on the best terms with them.
The Green Lantern cameo! A few people cheered in this scene even though he was killed. I️ thought seeing his ring flying off to find a new owner was cool.
Lois being a minor character was also good. She didn’t feel forced into the plot the way she was in BvS.
The Superman vs. League fight was my favorite part of the movie.
What I️ didn’t like:
This didn’t feel like a Zack Snyder movie. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is subjective, but to me, it was bad. I️ like the atmosphere his films have but felt this movie lacked that.
The bad CGI and green screen was very obvious in plenty of scenes. Steppenwolf looked very underdone in terms of CGI and he also felt like a villain-of-the-week. I️ liked Hinds’ performance though. Superman’s mustache CGI was also noticeable in a couple of scenes but can be missed, I️ think.
Elfman’s soundtrack was very bland. The only moments of it that I️ liked were Barry nudging WW’s sword toward her and the soft WW theme when she’s rescuing the hostages.
The movie felt very short and rushed. It feels like they repeated what was done with BvS where they took a longer movie and squeezed it into a shorter one. I’d actually like to see a director’s cut if there is one.
I️’d give it a 7 out of 10. I️ liked it but really wanted to love it. I️ think this will be Snyder’s last DCEU film, but I️ feel it’s for the best. Although I’ve liked all of the movies minus SS, taking the franchise into a new direction is very needed.
