It's official, the fucking cat has got to go.

Does she only do this with you? If so, it is probably a dominance type of thing with your SO. She was in the picture long before you and is dearly attached to him. She feels threatened by you. Hitting her will only make her worse, plus hitting an animal is never ever ok.

I feel so terrible for the cat. I know she is scratching you and being mean, I get that. But, animals only have so many ways to tell you something is wrong. Have you talked in depth about this with your vet? If you have a good vet, they should definitely be able to help you with better ideas.

Have you tried the plug-in Pheramone cat calmer things? The pet stores sell them and some cats respond very very well to them, they calm them down and make them more mellow. Another idea.

Pets are very sensitive and since she is an older cat, getting rid of her will be very hard on her. She will miss your husband terribly because she has always been his and has that bond. Your husband will as well. I know you hate the cat and don't have those feelings or that bond, but it is just an animal. Considering her age, she may not be around for many more years.

Also, a lot of cats react to hormones in women when they are pregnant. She totally knows you are pregnant and can sense this. Things may only be this bad while you are and will die back down once those hormones have dissipated.

I guess I am just trying to give you other solutions or alternatives to getting rid of her. I am a big cat lover. But, I get the frustration of having a cat that acts up. We had one that pooped outside her box multiple times a day for many many years. I would get pissed and rant and rave to my husband. But, you know what, we lost her this year. And I miss and think about her everyday.
