Official Late-Comer Megathread - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice [SPOILERS]

Superman could have yelled "Lex tricked us both! Save my mother!"

There a lot of questions that go along with that. Did Superman have any idea that Batman was also being played? Not at all.

Second, how was Bruce supposed to know who Superman's mom was? He's the world's greatest detective, so obviously, he could find out.. in time. At that moment? You need a name. Saying MARTHA KENT would have made wayyy more sense, maybe he was afraid of outing his 'secret identity'? I have no answer for that one. Regardless, from Clark's perspective, it would have been a real "what does he know?" moment. He was about to die, so fuck it, "Save Martha!" Maybe a first name will do more good than just "Save mom"

I suppose that ties into your last question - Clark wasn't anticipating Bruce having an emotional reaction to it. He was just choosing his last words carefully "Save Martha". You could tell he was struggling for breath (what, with Batman's boot on his throat and all) and Batman was about to lunge a spear into his heart.

To summarize, Clark didn't know Bruce's mom was named Martha. Clark didn't expect an emotional reaction. Clark was just trying to find a way to save his mom before dying.

Come to think of it, who else said "Martha" the moment before their death?

Bruce's dad.

New thought - Bruce saw that his father's final thought was of Martha. The moment just before killing Superman, he realized Clark's final thought was going to of Martha. At that moment Batman realized he was the villain. He realized he had failed Clark, which is what he refers to at the funeral scene.

(daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn just came up with that last part, I think it fits!)
