Official No Stupid Questions Thread - Spring 2019

Man, now this thread title fits my question perfectly.

I've been out of the game for nearly a decade, played for about 4 years on an old mediocre Ibanez E-guitar before that. Now I really want to get back into E-guitars.

Going through my local classifieds, I found a few Gibsons, Fenders, the usual. But also a stupefyingly (think around 850 bucks) cheap Jackson USA B7 Deluxe - a Baritone 7 string guitar thats sold for about 2200$ IIRC. Excellent condition (good pics), just a small scratch in a really inconspicuous place in the back, so really a bargain, but also a pretty "special" tool.

The question: Can I, as someone who is just getting back in, tune this 7 string Baritone guitar to standard and just usually mute the string I'm not using with my palm? I feel like it'd force me to develop very clean technique. I like the purist Jackson look. If this idea is complete bollocks, I'll opt for a standard stratocaster and leave it at that.
