Sorry if this is not the right thread for this, but I wanted to get some feedback on if my professional freelance rates were reasonable or too high/low.

I live in an expensive and competitive city (NYC) and was recently laid off from my full-time staff photographer job due to covid. I was a professional product photographer there making $65k a year. I am planning on freelancing for a while and have a few leads so I need to figure out a fair pricing strategy. I have 4 years of corporate product photography experience, which includes both white-background product photography and styled out editorial product photography. I art direct, prop (or food) style, photograph, and edit all projects myself. I have a small at-home studio set up with professional strobe lights and a Canon 5D Mark III that I shoot with.

My pricing usually varies depending on how big or small the business is but my current guidelines for this while I'm working from my house is the following:

$500-$750 flat-rate per shoot for basic product photography (no props, plain background, simple, clean) - depending on how many products need to be shot.

$1,000 flat-rate per editorial shoot that involves prop sourcing and styling. Maybe $1,250 if it's a lot of different shots needed or its heavily stylized.

Is this too high or low or does it sound right? I don't charge extra for editing time or rentals since I own my own equipment. The only extra cost I would add to my invoices is the cost of the props.

Thanks for your input!
