Official: [Simple Questions and League Issues] - Thu Afternoon, 10/11/2018

Sup, so I'm in a 12 team standard league and a major controversy just went down after a trade that happened yesterday. I'm pretty conflicted on the whole thing so I'm wondering what some non-biased people might have to say about what happened.

So basically, two owners, we'll call them Owner A and Owner B, are both 1-4. Owner A made 2 previous trades this week that were actually really good, to his credit. His team actually looked like it could be competitive in the second half. Owner B, well, he's one of those people where his life is kind of all over the place, so this is reflected in his fantasy team too. For example, he missed our draft because he was playing mini golf, and last week he started Jameis Winston while he was on bye, even though Bortles was on his bench. Besides this, he's made some really questionable and dumb decisions too (i.e. dropping Carson Wentz in WEEK 2 for Ryan Fitzpatrick). Basically, the point is he's been either apathetic, or just plain stupid, or both the whole year.

Okay, so the trade: Owner A trades Alshon Jeffrey and Trey Burton and Owner B trades DeAndre Hopkins. Immediately when everyone saw this, we assumed there was some sort of collusion, or otherwise shady shit going on. Owner A also has LM powers along with another owner, and he pushed the trade through without saying anything. Now, we never had to vote on any trades in the past, and no one ever proposed that any other trade was unfair. People texted Owner A to push through trades and he did on the spot in the past - which is totally fine considering there's literally only tuesday through most of thursday to do trades. But in this case, the trade seemed so lopsided, and given everything we knew about Owner B being an apathetic and bad owner and Owner A trying desperately to improve his team this week, a lot of other owners and I felt the trade necessitated being discussed and voted on.

Our precedent for vetoing trades was that 8/10 teams - excluding the 2 teams involved - had to agree the trade was bullshit for it to be vetoed. We had 8, and the other LM reversed the trade, after which both teams involved absolutely raged about it. I'll spare you the details but Owner B dropped his entire team other than Hopkins (undroppable) in protest. Owner B's argument was that he needed a TE for that week (his TE, Benjamin Watson, was on bye) and that Alshon "could put up 20-25" a week while DeAndre "can only put up 11 a week and sometimes 20" (not joking). More importantly though he insisted that we let him make the trade no matter how shitty it is because it's his team and its BS that anyone else should have any control over it.

Eventually I decided I would rather Owner B have his shitty team, have the trade go through and have it be over with, because I would rather have that than have the whole season be a sham because one team quit.

Now, I actually would stand to gain from Owner B rage-quitting - I play Owner B this week, and I also play his team again in Week 13, a very important week as our playoffs start week 14. But I felt Owner B's attitude toward the league was cheapening our league experience, which 8/10 other owners agreed with, so we agreed that the trade should be blocked. Eventually Owner B quit the league and left the chat. Owner A acknowledged that the trade was lopsided and Owner B is an idiot, but still felt the trade should be allowed. Now that Owner B is most likely not coming back, the trade will probably be vetoed, however.

I personally think trades should never be vetoed other than exigent circumstances, but I also think Owner B has acted like an absolute ass, and there's a reason we set the voting bar at 8/10. But anyway, now that that all happened... what do you make of it?

TL;DR: You're probably gonna need the context, but Owner A trades Alshon & Trey Burton to Owner B for DeAndre Hopkins, whole league accuses both teams of collusion, turns out Owner B is just an idiot and terrible owner, but the trade gets blocked by a vote of 8/10. Owner B quits league.
