Oh man, the Persona fanboys are lashing out in full force

Another big reason why people like it is because of the lip flaps, they feel like the words fit better in the characters mouths visually as well but to be honest, I'd have to say that a lot of that has to do with the making process (linguistics aside). As far as I know, a lot of shows get drawn AFTER the voice acting, so obviously it's going to be more "attractive" or whatever, and there's also the possibility of making last-minute edits. English dubs on the other hand have a lot less options. I know lip-syncing is a thing, but it's not easy especially when the "still characters with moving lips like puppets" impression is still pretty big when it comes to anime. They have to lengthen/shorten dialogue while also practically forcing the actors to properly act it out. For Japanese dubs, they'll make edits if a line or two are worded weirdly when spoken.

Then there's also the contracts and legal issues. I heard part of the reason why Alisha in Tales of Zestiria got shafted is because something happened with her voice actress, Ai Kayano, so that should say something about just how deep this rabbit hole really is.
