"Oh, you're a moderate Democrat? Which politicians do you like?"

He had 4 months of control over Congress in his entire tenure, of course he had to be bipartisan. The GOP hadn't gone into full on obstructionist and lunacy yet so Obama and the Democrats tried to act in good faith.

When he was first inaugurated in January the dems had 57 seats in the senate plus 2 independents (Bernie and Lieberman). Kennedy had health issues at Obama's inaugural lunch and Al Franken wasn't seated until July because of a recount. So he was operating at 55 and they managed to pass a stimulus package in response to the great recession, due in part to bipartisanship as they needed 3 Republicans to vote along. Obama didn't have control of the senate until September and that lasted until February because Scott Brown, a Republican, replaced Kennedy.

Of those 4 months many weeks were spent in recess. Idk why I know all this since I'm Canadian but it should be common knowledge. Also the public option was eliminated and Obamacare was watered down further because of Lieberman. So where exactly was he suppose to get the votes to pass universal healthcare?
