Ohio Governor DeWine announces “I Want A Season” campaign, where athletes encourage social distancing and mask wearing on social media.

I mean...I kind of get it if they're viewing in a larger conspiracy-minded way. I understand the actual logic behind masks, so please don't take this as me saying I agree with this or don't understand the rationale and need for masks. I'm just going to suggest some reasons why people may feel it has nefarious intentions or is a step to "removing their rights".

Wearing masks and not being able to see people's faces and smiles and whatnot is kind of de-humanizing and isolating. Having to wear a mask is less taking away a right, and more taking away a piece of people's life they value intrinsically- social interaction. Smiling and laughing with people. Some companies were banning people from wearing masks initially because they said it would scare other customers. In general, we're used to people wearing masks in public (vs a hospital) to be associated with deviant behavior and secrecy, it inspires mistrust subconsciously. I also feel the masks look and feel like muzzles, like conditioning to silence the nation.

I understand the irony that if we dont wear masks, then we actually have no social interaction at all. It's also possible those people don't think covid is real or is overblown/the numbers are fake.

But also yes, I never go on twitter or facebook and expect to feel good about posts I see there.
