Why is it okay for a person believing in a God to tell you that "God Exists" but if an atheist is to say "God isn't real" it's disrespectful?

Christians believe they are sharing something that would make someone else's life better/ more meaningful. Atheists often come across as condescending and use the topic to assert some kind of intellectual dominance over others.

I grew up religious but I don't identify as such now. I dated an atheist a while back and he would spend a lot of time talking about how ridiculous and stupid Christianity was. He would reference the bible, but didn't really know much about it or have much understanding of it. I would never dream of trying to "convert" him and I never even brought the subject up. He would just go out of his way to talk about how stupid it all was. It got really annoying! Over time I learned that he was just like this about anything he didn't really understand- he also struggled with abstract concepts and meaningful analysis.

I have a lot of family and friends who are still Christian. When they say they are praying for me, that means they are sending good thoughts/vibes, and I'm cool with that. When they say something like "god exists" I just see that as an affirmation to themselves, and don't take it personally.( Also its an odd thing to randomly go around saying "god exists" but idk maybe in your part of the world that's a thing...)

There will always be people who want to shove their beliefs into your face, atheist, christian, whatever.
