Old, but great article: "Meet Vancouver's hottest hometown girl: Grimes, aka Claire Boucher"

ok yeah, i actually remember that now!

"Whenever you think you've figured her out, she's already three moves ahead. Things are never what they seem.”

They should put stickers with that quote on her vinyl.

While I do realize there is a degree of self mythologizing (and being-mythologized-by-one's-mom) in every article (and every artist and every person always does that, to make a narrative out of our lives, which really don't make sense) I can't really get over the sense she is a supernaturally gifted being. I think she's a normal, down to earth person yet... she also has this fucking gift which maybe some others have (not too many), AND she works hard in pursuing her gift AND she doesn't force it, and lets her unconscious receive the messages from wherever sent her these messages (almost no one with that gift does all that), she exactly reminds me of Mozart in the film Amadeus. All the others in her entire area of music now are Salieri really. And yeah probably Salieri was awesome and I bet if you put Claire back in those times she'd be repping Salieri as better than Mozart, punk that she is. (Her bf would totally tweet "Salieri > Mozart" and "I'd much rather see Salieri at the Salzburg Court Festival than Mozart") I haven't listened much to Salieri, but I don't even like Mozart much, aside from a couple of his things (Requiem, Don Giovanni, Magic Flute). But the (entirely fiction) version of Salieri as this talented, yet not-divinely-inspired artist deeply jealous of Mozart, and the (fiction) of Mozart as the playful genius to whom everything looks like it comes easy (even though it doesn't, at all), seems weirdly close to the truth of Claire Boucher. And even the way in the movie, Mozart attracts haters and people who want to hurt him, is like her. :(
