Old ST Op-Ed (November 2006): How meritocracy can breed intellectual elitism

My dad and his siblings worked they way out of "poverty" from a small factory living quarters to two landed properties

Despite my dad being just a manager

I think I have worked hard so far ,

I can choose to pay myself $7 million a month

I don't

I can choose to drive a rolls Royce

I don't

I can choose to stay in a $32 million dollar property

I don't

I simply don't need to show my success to others by buying things I do not need

I don't need the Rolex

My ns time watch will do

I don't need that silly rolls Royce or BMW

The mrt will do ,or I'll walk

I don't need that apartment in newton

My HDB EC will do

I don't need all the money in the world

I just need my family A roof over my head A decent and healthy meal

That's all
