It sounds like you live in someplace very expensive such as San Francisco. Consider moving to the midwest where you'll be able to buy any amount of real estate with a software developer salary. Salaries are only somewhat lower while real estate and the cost of living is a small fraction. I like taking the path of least resistance.
It's unfortunate that your startup ran into some IP barriers. However, most startups either pivot or fail. It's unusual to succeed on the first idea. Dust yourself off and try again. The main difference between those who succeed and those who fail, other than a bit of luck, is how soon they quit.
Like you, online dating doesn't work for me, and for most guys because it's a numbers game working against us. Each girl is approached by far too many guys. In person approaches come down to which guys have the guts to approach her, so there's far less competition.
