On this day in 1987, someone briefly took over WGN and WTTV and broadcast while wearing a Max Headroom mask, and they still don't know how or why.

Hey, I don't want to sound any alarms here but I think you're on to something.

There's two ideas I have right now based on the name you've given: 1. A man named Henry Ruhwiedel from the greater Chicago area (location given on LinkedIn), 44 years in the business, who also worked at WGN at the time of this incident, and also author of this letter to the FCC which all but admits to the hack. That is, in that letter, he outlines specifically how the EAS (alert system) has major flaws and does so in a tone that makes it seem as though he's pwned it himself. Even references War Games. Ends it by saying they should get rid of the EAS to "prevent Chicken Little from screaming “The Sky is Falling” based on whim, bad or missing information, as a prank or deliberate deception."

^ That - especially if not related to the incident this thread is about - is extremely coincidental.

  1. (related to number 1) There's a book called "ATV in a nutshell : everything you need to know to build or operate your own ham TV station" by one Henry B. Ruh that published in 1978. Been trying to locate said person and said book however I've come up short on that in the short amount of time I spent looking. I say it's related to the first because because I can't help but think Henry Ruhwieldel was Henry B. Ruh.

Well, hope this aligns somewhat with what you have been told and what info you have.
