On the eve of the new tax plan vote, I feel we should be reminded of FDR's wisdom.

Just imagine how far our society and humanity as a whole might have come by now if every person had at least a minimum standard of living. By relegating the masses to lives of poverty and drudgery, we deny and oppress the creativity, generosity, and even the intelligence of people who might otherwise have incredible contributions to make to the world.

If we started demanding to share in the fruits of our labors instead of using them to enrich an already wealthy few, we could work less, produce more, and devote ourselves to creating, inventing, and giving back to our fellow men and women, and indeed, the whole world.

If the poor in impoverished nations didn't have to exploit their precious natural resources just to survive, if the surpluses of food we create could be distributed to those who need them, if we required those who benefit the most from our capitalist society to actually pay their proportional share to maintain it, our lives would be unimaginably better.

Instead we fight each other. We do the bidding of those who only seek to exploit us. We somehow think it's not only right, but good that a few hundred families possess more wealth than most of our country combined. No one works that hard. No one deserves that much. If it weren't for the work and dedication of millions, those same people would have nothing. We need a socialist revolution, or we are doomed.
