On Khadr, Trudeau says Charter protects all Canadians 'even when it is uncomfortable'

Clearly you don't understand how other countries' laws work. For example, the United States claims its laws applies to all citizens regardless of where they are located. That's why Americans have to file tax returns even when they live in Canada and have zero economic or social ties to the United States. It's also why Americans can be (and have been) prosecuted for child sex tourism in southeast Asia.

It's illegal to renounce US citizenship to avoid being subject to American laws so it's effectively impossible to avoid this trap. When you violate American laws, the United States can and does request extradition from wherever you live. And guess what? Canada and the United States have an extradition treaty so Canada is legally obligated to comply with extradition requests.

Your proposal would make millions of Canadians criminals and put them at risk for prosecution and extradition in foreign countries. That's why it's both impractical and dangerous to require Canadians to renounce their citizenship to other countries.
