On my hellish NYC commute

Drugs and alcohol are one thing.

Ill never forgot my one trip to Turkey though (Istanbul) - where i saw a classmate give the rest of his holiday money the day we were leaving to a homeless kid who looked barely older than 12 we'd seen before living on the side of the road near our hotel. Dude was having a shit day, and for some reason he felt the need to preach to the child a little bit as he did it - he broke out his phrasebook just to look up the Turkish for "food".

As we walked away i turned around, saw the kid immediately sprint down the road to what appeared to be another kid only slightly older than him. He immediately handed his money over - I didnt see why or what for but i assume it was in exchange for something not food. Shits made me very distrustful of beggars ever since.
