On the rarity of enlightenment

I believe it is taboo for monks to publicly state that they are enlightened. It is seen as boastful. They keep it quiet and amongst themselves. There very well may be numerous enlightened beings on this planet but they aren’t flaunting it publicly.

I believe someone like Ajahn Brahm is likely enlightened but he would never boast of such things. I think the point is is that once you are enlightened you understand that there was nothing to actually attain to begin with. Enlightenment isn’t some super secret high level in a video game. We as the unenlightened view it as some unattainable state that only few reach and the enlightened view it as the natural state and one in which we already were within from birth but the scales had to be removed from our eyes in order to see it.
