On a scale of 1 to 10 how much does Native/Indigenous influence your country?

On a scale of 1 to 10? We are a solid 5.

We are mostly influenced by West Africa and Spain but a “Taíno” identity remains that is very evident and revered. It's why we call ourselves Boricuas from Borinquen.

We have many Taíno words in our language, and most of our cities are named after their respective Caciques. You can’t walk 10 feet without seeing Taíno art and symbols.

They also had a huge influence on our food, on syncretic religions and we have the highest amount of indigenous ancestry in the Caribbean (up to 35%). Even more sometimes due to a history of immigration from Venezuela and Central America. So if you see a Puerto Rican that looks more mestizo than mulatto, that’s why.
