Y'know taverns and bars used to be a typical thing, often in the same building. The bar would be a nice place to have a drink and chat and the tavern would be in the back where the guys went after work without getting changed to shoot pool and hit each other, its wasn't illegal for a woman to go into the tavern just frowned upon and also I'll advised because it's like getting thrown to the wolves. I know a lot of older women who miss this layout and often say that "feminist ruined a lot of good bars because they just had to go where they weren't supposed to" (I'm really talking about a tavern like pub/bar not a club and I think that it was gendered and it was ok)
