One of the high-profile epidemiologists advising Gov. Hogan says that the state is prematurely lifting caps on the size of indoor gatherings and thinks the state should have waited to see the impact of recent protests on the disease's spread.

The really sad fact is that we have an entire party of people who honestly don't care about people's health, unless it's telling a woman what to do with their body. It pains me as I am a (former) lifelong Republican up until about 8 years ago. Hypocrites of the highest order these days.

I'll also say that Hogan's done a better job, overall, then most states. Other than the unemployment fiasco, he's done a fantastic job. One of the under-realized problems with quarantine is that 'liberals' will say - the government should provide for us, universal basic income, etc - and the execution of it this spring was fucking tragic. Not just at the state level, nationally too.

The protests nationwide have put everyone in a bad position with COVID and quarantine. *It's not about the reason for the protest - I fully support and I attended a smaller protest last weekend in my neck of the woods (couple hundred people, VERY spaced out and masked). * It's just - imagine being a politician and telling constituents they can't have funerals for their dead family members because of 'no more than 10 people' and then seeing tens of thousands of people peacefully protesting in cities nationwide.

Finally, there always had to be a balancing act between economics and safety. The longer we shut down, we save lives - sure...but at what economic cost? What use is being safe if you're broke? That's what many people are asking themselves, even if I think it's wrong.

We're heading for another Great Recession but it's more because of the idiot states in the South opening up everything at the end of April, then it is Hogan opening up a mall in late June...
