The one-in-three Australians who rent have been let down during the coronavirus crisis - ABC News

One thing that I do hope comes out of this corona crisis, is that the perception that housing is risk free,is quashed.

I already learned that the hard way.

I bought an apartment to live in 10 years ago in Perth and was set to probably lose $100k on it if I sold even before the virus. That's not even taking into account the opportunity cost of the money I have 'invested' in the property.

I'm still living in it but also bought a block of land at the end of last year and was to build on it soon.

I really don't know what to do with the apartment now. I'm prepared to take a loss but it's probably going to be even bigger if the property market slows down significantly.

I've never really wanted to be a landlord, but the only other option is to rent it out but that seems like a really unsafe option now that tenants have effectively been told that they can't be kicked out even if they stop paying rent.
