One pair of (male) boots to do it all?

You won't really find anything against rotation.

That's because there's nothing wrong with it. No one is going to argue that rotating you shoes hurts them. But there's a difference between "rotating your shoes won't hurt them" and "rotating your shoes will make them last longer".

But look, I'm probably placing way too much emphasis on OP's first criteria

weather resistant to snow/sleet/rain (especially the half slush, half water "death puddles" we enjoy in the urban northeast USA)

And that just doesn't sound like an uninsulated leather shoe to me. The rest of his criteria are definitely appropriate to an uninsulated leather shoe, but that first criteria makes me think of something more rugged.

Oh also I would not buy the exact same pair twice. I'd buy a different style, material or colorway. But that's beside the point.

I'd do that too, but that's not besides the point. Sorry to use a double negative but OP specifically said he was interested in one type of shoe.
