This is one of the saddest shit I have seen

Absolutely, 'their final moments should not be panic'. It's an honor to be there as their friend and life partner at the end, to thank them for all their love and shenanigans. The flip side of that (the option none of us want) is the sleepless night torment wondering where they are tonight.. are they in pain or suffering somewhere, or did they feel pain when that Car hit them. It's 'mission accomplished' at the end of the hooman / pet contract when you hold them at the Vets right at the end of their long happy life. I'll take that option every time. A friend and guitar student (Danai Kelleher, very talented song writer here in Ireland) once wrote me a beautiful poem in honor of my Dog at his passing and it tore me up. One line went 'Denied a soul on Earth and in Heaven, for every year shared He gave you back seven..'

For any of you interested here's Declan O'Rourke's , 'Sarah' probably the most beautiful tune for a deceased Pet I've ever heard (there's a shortage of cool tunes for departed pets) He wrote it in tribute for His Irish setter after She passed and whenever He performs it live He says 'this is for a dear friend'. 'Last night in a dream Sarah ran to me, and we lay in the sun at the top of the hill.. against my face, I felt Her chestnut coloured curls.. and I held Her like my own little girl.. singing Hold on, with your heart faithful Sarah.. for mine will remember you forever'
