One step forward, two steps back

Yeah, I give him toys when he bites while we are playing or training. I’ll continue doing so until he gets the hang of it. So far, he’ll be interested in a toy for 5-10 seconds but loses interest and tries biting us instead. Like I mentioned in my post though, I know it’s totally normal puppy behavior

We live near Seattle so there’s lots of foresty hiking areas just outside, so luckily there’s lots for him to explore on walks. I work from home so I’m almost always with him, and I’m an athlete so I’m prepared to exercise him consistently

Although from my research, I’ve heard that huskies/malamutes can actually prefer smaller living spaces provided they are being regularly exercised. My partner and I would love to move into a house, but it’s probably going to be a couple of years before that point. So for now, we’re gonna do the best we can and make sure he gets plenty of outside time

I was aware that his breeds are “harder to train”, although I’ve also heard that just like any breed, diligent training from a young age can still mold a behaved dog regardless of breed if things like exercise are being taken care of. I understand where you’re coming from though, since the common idea is that they’re difficult to train. Regardless, we’re pretty far into bonding with him already and he’s pretty attached to us, so I think it’s past the point where rehoming would be appropriate
