Unpopular Opinion, but they are just my opinions:
If people weren't making any income before covid-19 then why do they feel entitled to this benefit? I understand that it's harder to find a job but they were already expecting to make 0 income for a while, there is no change in income so they shouldn't get this benefit.
The people that voluntarily quit their jobs with no savings and expected to get a job right away were already were taking a huge risk anyways. Again, getting a job right away was never a guarantee. This is just what happens when you take a risk.
People that had jobs lined up and then already voluntarily quit their existing jobs and had their jobs taken away due to covid-19 I think should be able to collect this benefit. It would be easy to have documentation to prove that you lost your job as a direct result of covid-19 and I would expect these people to be next in line to collect this benefit.
Students that were set to graduate or were planning on working during the summer, to me there was never a guarantee that they would get a job right away so shouldn't be eligible for this benefit. Plenty of students have had to wait a few months before they got their first job after graduation or weren't able to secure a summer job related to their studies in the past. I disagree that students should be eligible for this benefit. I think if they had a firm offer in place that was repealed due to covid-19 then it's a different story and should be eligible but without this I don't see why they should be eliglble.
Alot of the people that have part time income that lost their main jobs and complaining that they wouldn't be eligible and that they don't want to quit their side gig...This one is confusing to me because would they not be eligible for regular EI? If you are not then you should quit your side gig, this is inconvenient I agree, but if you want to get this benefit then you have to quit. At most you are losing out on 4 months of your side gig.
Out of the 862,000 unemployed Canadians that are currently not qualified to make the CERB, the only ones that I believe should be eligible are:
Overall, this is a shitty situation for every Canadian and we have all had to give up things and sacrifice due to covid-19. I just don't think it's realistic to have a program that can cater to every single person, and I definitely don't think that someone that voluntarily quit their jobs and already had uncertainty and 0 income before covid-19 should be receiving this benefit. I don't think that someone saying they were "likely to get a job" is enough to show that someone should receive this benefit.
