I had it done in 2012. It was not performed by an OBGYN, it was performed by an elderly Certified Nurse Midwife in my own home. I was 23, it was my first child, Obamacare wasn't enacted yet so I didn't have healthcare - which is why I hired a midwife to come to my home. She told me she was giving me a husband stitch as she stitched me since I had a tear from the birth. I was so exhausted from 34 hours of labor that I laid there with my new little baby in my arms and didn't protest. I assumed it was a good thing if she was doing it. I was uneducated about the practice, and she was obviously set in her old fashioned mindset.

So, yes it still happens. But in a hospital setting, I'm sure it's less likely.
