I'd planned to be doing exactly this from the start of July (travelling through a few different countries on my way to Vietnam). Obviously, this plan is postponed, but I hope to get going in early 2021. I expect to be living out of my bag for 3+ years. I moved countries about two years ago, it's been a great way to get an idea of how much of my shit I really don't need.
My packing list is basically complete, my 38L bag tops out at ~8-8.5kg (I can fit a kilo in my pockets if I need to).
Because I'm a teacher, I need a few changes of smart clothing (3x shirts, 2x dress trousers, 1x dress shoes (not yet purchased)).
A Surface Go handles everything I need for work and can play older games (pre-2012ish) no problem. It's not the most powerful, but I'm delighted with it. It's tiny and light and I find the touchscreen really useful. So, everything I need to make money, including charger, USB hub, mouse and headset, weighs less than 1.5kg.
I read a lot, so a Kindle is essential. I can also use it as a second screen for work PDFs.
The big compromise for me is music gear, I'm only bringing a small USB keyboard. I used to be a full time recording engineer/producer, I'm used to having great speakers in a treated room, and a roomful of instruments to write music with. If I expect to be in a place for a year, I'll pick up a cheap guitar and a basic audio interface and sell them when I move on.
