Why should anyone get to decide what people are allowed access to?

Certain substances exist in this universe that can be beneficial to people in any number of ways, so why shouldn’t they be able to use them for that purpose if they so desire, even if it’s just because they feel it would be “fun” to take more than is supposedly necessary?

The fact that there might possibly be negative consequences associated with, for example, ingesting more than a standard, or recommended dose of a substance should be considered inconsequential.

You can also run down the stairs just for fun and end up breaking your neck from a fall, and stairs are already constructed to meet certain codes - so should we ban stairs, since the current regulations fail to prevent every single death of a staircase?

Of course not, that’s a ridiculous idea, for plenty of reasons.

Another idea that’s ridiculous is assuming that adults will end up hurting themselves or others, and using law enforcement to keep them from accessing certain substances that someone has deemed dangerous in some way, “just in case”.

The actual reason scheduled drugs are sometimes illegal without a prescription is because it gives the government easer access to infringing on our rights and allowing them to stick their noses in our private lives even more than they could before Richard Nixon started the war on drugs decades ago that created these new laws.

Before that, tens of millions of people across the country were prescribed amphetamine, methamphetamine, barbiturates, and opiates for daily use - and the world wasn’t coming to an end, not even close.

Of course, with all the people incarcerated for illegal drugs, and all of the violent crime caused by the procuring, manufacturing, and distributing of those same, previously more legal, drugs, it looks like we’re all going to hell in a handbag being torn to pieces by hairless, angry cops driving around in armored vehicles and armed with fully automatic assault rifles while wearing horribly ugly sunglasses and yelling orders at all the lowly, doped-up civilians they intend to control. It’s exactly as awful as it sounds, seriously.

The worst part is that it’s all because someone had a little bag of something that’s not even very dangerous in their pocket, and hadn’t even planned on hurting anybody while they had a good time. For that they get their lives ruined while they’re locked up in a cage just like an animal, with rapists and murderers for companions.

Ok, the real worst part is that the whole mess is actually happening because some people are busybodies, and think they know better than everyone else, so they attempt to control people with unnecessary rules that eventually lead to the awful mess we’re all trapped in today.
