Only 32 student-loan borrowers — ever — have qualified for full forgiveness through an income-driven repayment plan

Why not the military? If you can take 8-12 weeks of basic, get into a decent military job that makes sense for your skill set, (MOS), the Army and Navy pay up to $65K worth of loans. 4 year enlistment is nothing. 9-5 job after basic. Chances of getting killed in a car wreck are higher than getting killed in most MOS in the Army or Navy. That is what I did in 1995.

I know it is not for everybody, but there are a lot more men and woman that would probably love it at the end of their service term than there are people that are not cut out for military service.

Deep down inside most people have a yearning to take part in an expedition. There are not many avenues that allow for the experience of expeditions. Arctic, Everest, Space, Peace Corps, and military are about it. Military pays up to $65k, plus all living expenses, plus an expedition life for four years. Free healthcare and exercise programs. Why more don’t take advantage is beyond me.

I don’t know why there are not more equivalent programs…rebuilding infrastructure as an example….4 year terms, student loan repayment, would get the US some cheap labor.
