"Only $5?" "Oh, sorry, my mistake..."

Back at my previous place of work there was a woman who'd regularly try to convince people to give them change at the local subway, no matter how many times they'd get kicked out they'd wait long enough for them to look away and just sneak in via a back entrance.

Thing is she'd always claim she had kids, was homeless and they were all hungry, but would refuse uneaten cookies or offers to buy her or her kids a sandwich, she only wanted money.

Used to drive me mad because not only is it really annoying when you're eating, but she clearly wasn't hungry or she wouldn't be refusing offers of food, she was just looking to score some easy money by appealing to people's desire to help kids.

People like that BTW are why I refuse to donate to homeless people directly, some of them are clearly lying about how they're trying to buy food or whatever. Donate to a charity/shelter that helps in the area instead as they'll probably get more done for the same donation while also making sure the help goes to those in actual need rather than just those who tell the saddest story.
