The ONLY thing worrying me about the release of FACES is it not being received well—by new fans or those who only loved Swimming/Circles. FACES was, in many ways, a different Mac; that said, I hope they’ll appreciate they understand that, without it, there likely would’ve been no Swimming/Circles.

Faces is a very lyric centric project. When you first listen to it, your response will probably be “these beats sounds interesting but weird” throughout the first few songs. Especially if you haven’t listened to/don’t like jazz. The production is very raw and paints a picture of someone going through the ups and downs of a very heavy drug addiction and all the misery, pleasure, despair and sometimes hope that entails. It’s a project you live with though, personally it’s my favorite out of his entire discography. There are so many amazing bars and one liners in this son of a bitch that it’s actually quite amazing. Also, his ability to paint a picture and tell a story is really unparalleled in this one.

Overall it’s an amazing project but sometimes, the best things in our lives are the ones we didn’t really fuck with all that heavy when we were first introduced to them

Kinda like people, ya heard
