The Ontario rust belt; eating cars since 1955

Back to back GM's in for inspection and both headed to the scrapper.

I moved from the frozen tundra northern states to a warm climate that very rarely uses salt. And when salt is used, I don't drive. My 20 year old car still looks new and I intend to keep it that way.

Anyway, I was expecting to find a ton of old non-rusted vehicles on the roads. Nope. Older cars like from the 60s or 70s (in any condition) are very rare.

Up north, the marketing for cars was 'Southern Car' (meaning vehicle didn't see any salt).

My 70s CJ-7 Jeep that I bought new was so rusted from the salt that much of the metal was gone when I finally sold it. No hyperbole or sarcasm.
